Today's Fact

On September 27, 1825, the Stockton and Darlington Railway became the first train to haul passengers.  Northeast England's coal boom led to this railway first as hauling coal from the mines to boats was the real motivation behind the creation of the rail line. However, passengers found seats inside one of the specially kitted-out coal wagons for the official opening of the world's first public steam-locomotive railway.
