July 7, 1928, heralds the day the best thing ever went on the market. Yes, sliced bread was first sold on this date 88 years ago. The bread was sold at Missouri's Chillicothe Baking Company, which offered up Kleen Maid Sliced Bread, thanks to Otto Rohwedder's invention of a machine that cut loaves of bread into uniform slices. Hailed as a great advance, sliced bread was banned for a time in 1943 as a wartime extravagance.
