April 2, 2015

Happy April! Did you get fooled yesterday? I hope it was a fun joke and not something terrible if so.

Welcome to the New Thursday Thirteen, the first week of April edition! What shall we post about this week? Books? Music? Germs? Utensils! Robins! Trees! Poetry! I love how this is always such a surprise.

Here's a fun fact for this date:

On April 2, 1805, Hans Christen Anderson was born. You probably recognize that name as he is the Danish author best remembered for writing fairy tales. A fairy tale is a story that has a theme that transcends age and nationality; generally it reverberates with the common folk (that'd be us, unless you're one of those wealthy one-percenters). Anderson brought us The Emperor's New Clothes, The Little Match Girl, The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Pea, Thumbelina, The Red Shoes, and many others.

What is your favorite fairy tale?

And here's Mr. Linky!

  1. I read a collection of Anderson's stories over Christmas and enjoyed reading old favorites as well as some I'd never read before.

  2. His stories were very important to me as a child. The Nightingale and maybe The Ugly Duckling.
