On December 28, 1065 (which was a long time ago!), Westminster Abbey in London was consecrated as King Edward the Confessor lay near death. He was unable to attend the consecration ceremony of the church he had commissioned as a burial place and to atone to the pope for a broken vow. Edward died eight days later. The abbey was completed in 1090 but rebuilt in the Gothic style by Henry III.
And here's Mr. Linky! Booyah!
