On July 19, 1848, crowds gathered in Seneca Falls, New York, for the opening of a two-day Women's Rights Convention. The first of its kind ever held in America, the convention included prominent speakers such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott. The women called for equal rights for women, including the right to vote.

On July 12, 1562, the Spanish Roman Catholic bishop Diego de Land burned sacred books of the Maya, a people native to the Yucatan Peninsula in what would later be called Mexico. The Maya indigenous language and religion was deemed heretical by the Inquisition and ordered to be destroyed.

On July 5, 1946, the two-piece swimsuit made an explosive debut in Paris. Louis Réard's abbreviated two-piece swimwear design turned up at a fashion show held at Paris' Molitor Pool. Réard named his creation, cut from 30 square inches of fabric, after nuclear bomb tests on Bikini Atoll, explaining, "like the bomb, the bikini is small and devastating."

On June 14, 1985, Hezbollah hijackers captured TWA Flight 847. The Boeing 727 carrying 147 passengers and crew from Athens to San Diego was hijacked shortly after takeoff by Lebanese Hezbollah terrorists, who demanded the release of 700 Shiite Muslims from Israeli custody. The hijacking of TWA Flight 847 lasted for more than two weeks.

On June 7, 1099 The First Crusade began as Western European Christian forces arrived at Muslim-ruled Jerusalem and begin to lay siege to a city that both they and Muslims deem sacred. After a climactic battle, the Christians defeated the Fatimid Caliphate and Jerusalem returned to Christian rule after some 400 years.
