On May 23, 1969, The Who released rock opera 'Tommy," the story of a 'deaf, dumb, and blind' boy who finds redemption through pinball and becomes a spiritual leader. The album sold tens of millions of copies and the story was adapted as a film and a stage musical.

On May 9, 1914, President Wilson made Mother's Day a federal holiday. Beginning in 1905, Anna Jarvis lobbied various officials to adopt a holiday honoring mothers, and she succeeded in convincing many US states to take part. On this date, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the second Sunday in May to be Mother's Day and a US federal holiday.

On May 2, 1536, Anne Boleyn was arrested and imprisoned. This happened three years after King Henry VIII broke away from Rome's Catholic dictates and annulled his first marriage so he could marry Anne Boleyn. However, he decided he preferred another woman as his wife, so he had Queen Anne arrested on charges of adultery, witchcraft, and treason, and taken to the Tower of London.

On April 25, 1945,  US and Soviet forces met at Germany's River Elbe, dividing the Nazi's remaining military force, and forging a personal alliance between the two Allied countries. Five days later Hitler committed suicide.

On April 18, 1775, Paul Revere started his 'midnight ride' of warning, allegedly shouting, "The British are coming, the British are coming! Grab yer guns, we're gonna have ourselves a revolution." (That's the Andy Griffith version, anyway.) To be sure, Massachusetts silversmith Paul Revere did saddle up and head off into the night to alert his fellow colonial militia members of the British force's imminent arrival and their intent to commandeer the American's arms as well as to arrest patriots Samuel Adams and John Hancock.

On April 11, 1976, Steve Wozniak released the Apple I, just days after forming Apple Computer Company (now Apple Inc.) with his friend Steve Jobs. A computer hobbyist, Wozniak hand-built and offered to the public a new machine boasting a 1MHz CPU and 4KB standard memory. He called it the Apple I.
