Today's Fact

On February 21, 1599, Shakespeare leased marshland on the Thames River. He, along with seven other men, leased a Southwark lot along the Thames. The playwright then owned a share in what would become the Globe Theatre, where some of his most memorable plays were first staged, including 'Julius Caesar,' 'Macbeth,' 'Othello,' 'King Lear,' and 'Hamlet.'
