On December 8, 1941, U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan after that country attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7, 1941. He called the day of the Pearl Harbor attack, "a date which will live in infamy." The House approved the war declaration, while Japan's allies, Germany and Italy, declared war on the US, bringing the US into WWII.
