On June 16, 1967, the Summer of Love kicked off with the Monterey Pop Festival. The counterculture adventure included many new rock stars, including The Who, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, soul superstar Otis Redding, and a young guitarist named Jimi Hendrix.
