Here's an factual tidbit:

On March 5, 1616, Copernicus was placed on the Catholic Forbidden Index. This is interesting because Copernicus lived from 1473 to 1543, and almost a hundred years later, theologians were still unhappy with his astronomical model of the universe that placed the sun, not Earth, as the center around which everything else turned.
